I love this piece. Time does things to us all. Makes us think if what we did yesterday was for the best, and sometimes leads us to strive to do better tomorrow.
I love your word choice to give your reader a better glimpse of how you felt in this situation. I could picture myself in your situation, walking with the one that got away on a fall evening. Thinking as you did, that tomorrow I will love better. Start fresh, and love anew.
Nicely done. Short and concise. Even though you expect to get mixed reviews. I praise you for making your belief known.
From a personal prospective...Anyone can say "Support the Troops" What is misunderstood is that the slogan is to actually just support them in their job. They signed up for this line of work and even though this is a very unpopular war...hearing those who are against the war, protest and belittle their accomplishments is demoralizing to them. I grew up in a military family, and I sympathize with your point of view. And though I want all the troops to come back home safely. I know that the cost of war is life. And they will not die in vain. Not as long as we have the God that you and I love.
