This is one of the most powerful poems I have ever read... not just because it handles a delicate issue, either. You know how to write. The highway/car imagery is strong, and captured my attention before I could even think about getting bored. Everything made sense within the miniature world you built in just a couple sentences.
I encourage you to strengthen the rest of the poem (specifically the "shadows" stanza) with imagery as strong as in the highway stanzas. I understood what you are saying, but it's not as concrete.
Thank you for sharing this poem - I grew from it. You impacted me. And that is something very hard to do.
