It has been long since I have read a story or I have seen a film that was actually a 'horror story.' Most of them would be too gory or too erratic to be taken seriously. In that respect, your story is not only credible but also gullible. It is an amazing feat that you have achieved here with such a small simple story. How simple and yet effective! It is a lesson to all those people who think 'horror' is when ghosts come out looking obnoxious with their body parts hanging and sticking here and there or banshees screaming about or just plain gory bloody parts thrown here and there! I can frankly say that I was waiting with bated breath for the end ever since I started reading the first few lines. And all the while, my heart was racing. A short story that was getting me more and more impatient till I reached the end, that's saying something!
The only complaint I have, though, is that the ending could have had a few more horror elements. I would have been happy had there been a bit more action that just the mere words that were bringing in their effects. But, hey, if you wanted to give your readers a tease, showing them how a thriller should be, then I guess you have achieved your goal here. Congratulations!
