I liked this so much, I added it to my favourites! I can see I'm going to be referring back to your article quite often in future. I think the corkscrew is probably the one I need to watch out for. That Faulkner sentence was really painful to read through - it was a criticism that Ernest Hemingway made about his writing too. I have a feeling that you, like me, fall into the Hemingway camp, in favour of clean, clear writing.

By the way, I think your Shakespeare quote is wrong - shouldn't it be:

We are such stuff
As dreams are made on?
