Great piece, compelling paragraph structure. The beginning reflection on life is my personal favorite. Love the cynisism of the main character towards his current situation. It's interesting when authors attempt to accurately depict a man's last moments, seeing as we can only guess the thoughts that are running through a dying man's head. Your take on it is eeriely soothing to me, even though the fact that there was even a recollection of his life would imply some sort of regret or fear. That's my take on it, good stuff.
