Review Style
It's important for writers to know what's working and what isn't, and as a reviewer, it helps to know if you have a specific concern as the writer. I'm an English teacher, winner of my university's fiction contest, and received honorable mention in 2019's Popular Fiction contest by Writer's Digest. My review will likely be specific but holistic, kind but honest. I'll let you know what truly grabs me or loses me. During the school year I won't be able to review much, but definitely hit me up over the holiday season or the summer months (North America) or during this COVID mess.
I'm good at...
Discussing structure, characterization and dialogue, literary merits, style, tone/voice. I can be very thorough. I'm also very good with grammar and spelling, though I'd like to avoid that in a review unless it's specifically for that.
Favorite Genres
YA, lgbtqiap+, romance, satire, contemporary
Least Favorite Genres
Religious, children's, fantasy, sci-fi, fanfiction
Favorite Item Types
Short stories and poetry; non-fiction pieces
Least Favorite Item Types
I don't have time for novels (including chapters) and other lengthy texts.
I will not review...
I'm uninterested in any works that discuss rape, racism, violence, etc. . These are topics few can handle responsibly. If your work is rife with basic grammatical and spelling errors, I won't read it. Do the grunt work first, then ask for that help. Also: religious works aren't my thing. Growing/Shrinking, vore -- whatever the weird genre du jour is, I won't read it.

Yikes.

That's one way to surprise somebody, one way to show them that you never know what or when something will happen to you.

You showed it in two different instances: with the patient losing her life in the hospital and the same doctor at her own home.

Both very frightening; both unexpected.

One thing that I couldn't shake, though, was the name Clarice.

I kept on thinking "Silence of the Lambs" *Pthb*

Other than that, pretty good! I think you could definitely expand on this, make it into a longer story where your focus point is on the fact that you never know what the next moment will bring.

I just noticed that your description mentions that you want to show us why we need to live life to the fullest. I'm not entirely sure that is said here. I more got the impression that this was more of a "you never know when you're going to die, or how it will happen"

I did notice at least one grammatical error. While it's not really distracting, I thought you might like to know:

"The close community of Newton is praying that John Baker, the alleged violent killer of Dr. Clarice Barton and her young daughter(a comma should be put here too) is found immediately. "

I would also put any thoughts that Clarice is having in italics; it makes it easier for the reader to distinguish narrative from inner dialog.

Other than that, good job :) I think you should try expanding on this story.

My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Go Noticed.

Fabulous, really. Not only did you hook me at the first line, you kept me hooked. Sometimes I read stories to the end with a rather indifferent interest (if that makes sense), but not here. Every time I thought you were done throwing in another piece of mystery, you would place one more in the path to keep me interested. It was deliberate, carefully worded, and I would eagerly read more (if you would be willing to write more!).

I am glad I got to read this. I will definitely be visiting your port soon to see what else you might have for me to read. Thanks so much!
