I liked the way this story went even though it seemed quite short. I must admit, the second I had read the "Once upon a time..." sentence, I realized the kidnapper would probably be her father. That's seemed like a common story idea. So some of the mystery was lost too early. Maybe you find a way to introduce the concept without making the truth obvious.

What I did like about the story though was the way it wove several threads into one fabric: family, social and political are well meshed together.

Also, I got a spike of joy upon reading "captive audience".
