What a fun, heart-warming story! It started a little slow for me-the first three sentences didn't grab me as much as the last in the first paragraph, but after that it picked right up, and I definitely want to know more about this family. I would love to see more description of the house, and perhaps some more detail about your room. This is perfect for a memoir-I hope that's what you're writing! I can almost feel the whole book-stories of a childhood...I smell summer, berries, and maybe some pig dung? :)
