Review of The Old Man

The story got me like it was a magnet. As the story built up, there was this curiosity building up in me to know the old man.

The message of the story is clear. Memories kept the old man going while he was waiting for the time when he could reunite with his loved one.
What a great way to grow old. The old man is an example of how to be a fine person in old age. He knew how to use his memories
to keep him smile.

My eyes were wet after reading "Mariposa" I can only say something about the effect of the story on me:
relief that Marilyn finally got the "symbol"before the final act to take her own life. Mariposa - what an apt sign for her not to take her life. She loved butterflies, didn't she? But her depression got the better of her that she moved to another collection - sleeping pills.

The falling child in Marilyn's arms, the shocked and grateful mother and Marilyn's own epiphany...these made up the powerful moment in the story.

"Mariposa" is a captivating story. No wonder it was awarded as the "Best of Rising Stars". It's a joy to read. It's a source of inspiration.
