Being a twenty year Navy veteran and having been through Desert Shield and Desert Storm, I can relate to this. You have done a nice job of describing the physical characteristics of the "Iron Bird" but more importantly, the emotional attachment, the importance and the purpose, safety and functionality of this "inanimate" object. Those who are not in your position may not be able to fathom the true meaning of this poem. Great job!
