I was so hoping that Mary was going to wake up! All it would have taken was for one person to step out of the rush and let her body become responsive. The tension you built was so great, am definitely going to remember this piece. There is a pretty intense story by Edgar Allen Poe in which a man is buried alive as well; i think you might really enjoy it.

Otherwise, well written and you caught my sympathies for this poor woman right away :`(

I have a little dog myself, and I appreciate this. This definitely feels like what my dog thinks sometimes. I would add some pace between your descriptions and dialogue however, it will feel less dense and be easier for someone to read. Really enjoyed, great job!

There are so many kids I went to high school with who fall into these categories. I knew a kid named Brady who had pretty severe social issues; mentally he was slightly affected as well. I never saw it, but i'm sure that people picked on him--the school was big on this whole 'Anti-bullying' kick when i was going, but they often punished all parties involved, which meant that if you were to defend a person, then you would be punished in the process of things. Didn't make helping someone in trouble seem very appealing, I guess. Anyway, really well written, with the narrator being very relatable to someone who has more than often stood on the sidelines in this kind of situation.
