This is a beautiful confessional piece, Amanda. I wish that I always shared your sense of optimism, faith, and self-sacrifice in regard to child rearing. I read your recent email about my opinion on the subject, and I wanted to respond by reading yours for comparison. I'm glad I did -- it helped me put things in perspective for me, if for no other reason than that it helped me to read that other people have the same feelings of guilt and even occasional despondence when it comes to child-rearing and some of the situations that go along with it.
That said, I can't for the life of me understand why this piece only has a 3.5-star rating -- it's as honest and heartfelt a piece as I've ever read on this site, and from a grammatical and structural standpoint, it's flawless. If anything you write in the future is nearly as soul-bearing and thought-provoking as this piece, I think you have a very promising future as an author. Please keep up the great work -- both as a mom and as a writer.
