Review of The Sound
Review by Larry Stephens
Rated: 13+ | (4.5)
What a fantastic piece of writing! You hooked me from the beginning and held my attention riveted to the page all the way through, as the suspense kept building and Fred's difficulties grew and grew and grew. And the humor! It was a riot to read and I've been chuckling to myself again and again ever since reading it, as I recall and replay in my mind various scenes from the story. What a gift you have for entertaining your reader. There was one little detail that disappointed me, however. All the way through, I was in suspense over the source of that SOUND, and was looking forward to finally finding out the answer. But no answer was ever given. Are we to assume that it was all a figment of Fred's overwrought imagination?

Thanks so much for all the pleasure your story gave me!

What a charming poem! And what a talented poet you are too... the rhythm is perfect all the way through, and also the rhymes, and the imagery.

I've pondered over the first line or two and still am in the dark about the real meaning of them? I guess he slept through Groundhog's Day? And then did he wake up on Valentine's Day instead, and get shot with Cupid's arrow?

Right away that coquettish lady groundhog appears and misleads us unsuspecting readers into thinking she is the one, then what a surprise and find out it's really his own shadow he has fallen in love with! What a scream! I love it.

How about rewording the last line of the next to last stanza a wee bit? "... revealed the love he'd come to know." Seems to me that might be a bit clearer... Just a thought.

Thanks for giving me such a good chuckle. I never knew groundhogs could be so charming!
