Wow! You had me hooked on this story from the first few words. A great flow with the story. I liked the great-grandmother and would have liked it if you would have delved more into her life with her great granddaughter and their shared memories. If course then you probably would be dangerously close to exceeding the short story thing.
I am not an experienced writer from either a technical or any other standpoint. The feedback I can give you is if I liked it or not and why. I liked it because it held my interest and off and on surprised me with the way the story went. A good thing. I feel you could easily enlarge this story into a small novel or larger but then what do I know. I do know I would read it.
Great, great effort for one so young. Keep writing and I will have to visit your port and read your other material. I am sure one day you will be published if not already. Then I can say, "I remember when....."!
