This piece hit very close to home. I was a mental health patient in a psych ward for three months not so long ago. I can not begin to tell you what a great impact some of the mental health nurses had on me, even when I pushed them away they kept on trying. I owe my life to them. So on behalf of the mentally ill I can say thank you to you as well. It is clear in your poem that you are a very compassionate person who goes beyond the call of duty. It's a beautiful poem. Thanks.

Standing ovation. I absolutely love this piece. The descriptive language creates the perfect mood and scene. I was pulled in right from the beginning and it gave me the shivers, I wanted to run but where to? Thanks for sharing this masterpiece. My son loves scary stories and I still read him scary bedtime stories so maybe tonight this poem will be his story.
Your imagery is awesome. I could vividly see the orphan sitting on the roadside with a clear trail on his face where tears just rolled. The poem evokes a feeling of empathy and definitely wakes the mother in me who wants to hold and protect this child. A beautiful, honest poem.

Being in the grip of major depression and just discharged from hospital, I understand the suffering, the suffocating, the wondering "where is the light?". You have used great imagery to illustrate this deceitful disease sometimes so difficult to describe to the non-sufferer. What a beautiful, thoughtful poem! Your imagery is vivid, I could see the stranger's face so clearly: all the lines of hardship and sorrow. I could see people looking the other way just because it's easier than being confronted with suffering. Maybe they don't want to be reminded of their own frailty and demons. But then I see someone stopped and looked with their heart and magic happened. A lovely poem!

I know intimately how very tempting it is to just let go and let the water pull me deeper and deeper into oblivion.
