First of all, this isn't my sort of thing personally speaking, however, I liked what you've done here with keeping it short and punchy, like war is sometimes; conflicts being over as fast as they had begun.
I liked the fact that it was very simply written. It reflected the state of affairs for me. A woman wants to find her love again in a terrible place. If I was in that situation, just like anyone I'd imagine, then there wouldn't be place for elaborate hyperbole or flowery dialogue.
I really liked the snapshot idea behind it. Showing us the end of Nina's life and what her last thoughts are reinforces what I was saying about it being simply written. There was no need to reread certain passages because you got everything you needed in there.
For me, I would've liked to know what had happened to Jess afterward and why he died, but apart from that I enjoyed this and it isn't something I could usually enjoy.
