A creepy tale! Well developed and written, with just enough description to give us the setting while allowing the imagination to roam free. A well crafted story!

Review of Dear Me (2023)

It's perfectly ok to stick with the same goals, if they're meaningful. We all fall short sometimes, and I appreciate your encouraging honesty that you have the strength to try again. Well done, and good luck in the contest!

Excellent! A powerful scenario, and written in less than 50 words. I envy your ability to tell such a powerful tale in a compact form. Well done!

A truly unique perspective, which I find fascinating. I love how it's told entirely from the perspective of the machine. It gives the story a "through the looking glass" vibe that makes the reader shift their framework. Well crafted with thoughtful "processing."

A hilarious story about how technology fails us, and how we can turn that around to explain our own failings! I love how you pack a strong, powerful story in less than 300 words, a thing I envy and am trying to improve with my own writing. Excellent story!

Forgiveness and reconciliation are two different things, and you can have one without the other. In fact, that's happened often in my life. A good piece that reminds you that forgiveness is more about setting yourself free than the other person, and that you can only change yourself.

I remember those advertisements and often think of them myself, even though the details do vary. For example, I use generic coffee because name brand is expensive in this day and time! What wonderful memories this poem brings to me. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who has these flashbacks in the mornings!

Review of College Stress
Review by SherritheWriter
Rated: E | (4.5)
This is absolutely true. I am in my late 40's, and can honestly say that you hit a point where the education viewed less and practical experience is viewed more, unless you're in a highly specialized field that requires the education (like medical, design professions, etc). I made active decisions in both high school and college to only take the "highest level" classes in areas that counted toward my intended degree program, and I'm glad I did. Cutting back in areas of less interest allowed me time to follow other hobbies and interests - in fact, I would have never met my husband if I hadn't been in the college marching band, because he was in a different major and we've always worked in different fields and places. Yes, a good education is important. I'm glad I have my degree and college were some of the best years of my life. But other things are also important, and you need balance.

Review of That Chair There

An interesting poem that tells a compelling story. Definitely a timely message in this headstrong world where people are doing whatever and whining about consequences! It had an excellent flow and tells a clear story with a resounding theme. Well written and well done!

A wonderful, heartfelt, and true story. I feel this way about my own Dad, who passed almost 2 years ago.

Review of Inner Doubts
Review by SherritheWriter

It's not a waste. I've been writing for 21 years with plenty of hits and misses along the way. Heck, I still get rejected! I can say with certainty that any path you take in life will have successes and failures. In the end, you need to follow your heart and trust the path to unfold as it will. You will learn and grown in wisdom as you go. For now, just start. Commit to the path and allow yourself to grow at the right pace for your soul. Good luck!

Review of Why in the World?
Review by SherritheWriter
Rated: E | (5.0)
Indeed, what more reason would you need? An excellent story that treats a serious subject that we all ponder with the proper respect. The answer seems so simple and yet, the complexity it invites makes readers wonder what more they can take from it. Well written and well done!

A lovely story. This proves that memories of real events can be just as inspiring and precious as a structured story. In fact, we should share these precious moments in life to preserve them. There's just something about it that transcends writing form and formulas. Thanks for sharing this.

An interesting poem that reads as much like a story or flash fiction piece! Well structured, well told, and well done.

I like this poem. It's perfect for children: it has a great flow, rhymes well, and is just plain silly in a way that works in that world. Well written, well constructed, and well done!

Review of A Decision
Review by SherritheWriter
Rated: 13+ | (4.0)
An interesting story filled with emotion, memory, and intrigue. You can tell this is a slice of life in a bigger story that goes on and on - maybe. I would be interested to know how this plays out: as a decisive moment, or another turn of the wheel.

Review of Truth
Review by SherritheWriter
Rated: E | (4.0)
An excellent point. We've definitely turned a dark corner, especially since COVID. I've heard many people comment about how people are more selfish and angry these days. It's a shame that the pandemic caused us to forget how to be civil - and here we hoped 2 years ago that we'd learn more compassion. I'm disappointed that it didn't happen. Thank you for this. Keep your eyes open to the truth!

An entertaining story! These strange things do happen, and I love to see people write about it, whether it's a true story or one made up (life is so strange that you never know!). I love how this story is in the format of a letter. Unique and intriguing. And funny!

Review of Tomorrow
Review by SherritheWriter

A lovely poem. I remember sitting in my room the night after college graduation looking at that letter from the President bidding me Godspeed and wondering "what now?" It's both an exciting and a scary time to have all of that potential in front of you, and not clear idea of which direction to take. Thanks for sharing this.

Review of The Trip WC 286

An interesting story that's well paced and well written. It would be nice to know a bit more about why they were going to Lake Geneva, but you probably had a word count limit for the contest. Given that limitation, it's a great story that's interesting and fun.

Review of On Happenings

A beautiful poem that accurately describes how many of us feel about the pandemic, and the impact it's had on life. I remember my niece saying that she felt like life was cancelled during the pandemic, and this poem certainly conveys that sentiment well.

Review of Sealskin teaser
Review by SherritheWriter
Rated: E | (5.0)
A compelling first chapter that sets the scene well for further development. It gives just enough information to launch the story to keep the plot open and doesn't "dump" too much of the backstory into the beginning, as many writers tend to do. I'm interested in the sharp reactions to the sea, as well. An intriguing first chapter!

Review of Married Today

Very interesting! I like the way that you tell this story in a lyrical, poetic way. It's compelling and keeps the reader intrigued. I can see the detachment in Mrs. McCoy in this story telling method, which works so well for this tale. Well written and well done. Keep up the great writing!

Why has no one reviewed this? I will because it resonates with for two reasons: first, my maternal grandmother died on December 6, 1987, and second, my father was buried on that same plot just days after my birthday in August 2020. The loss of a parent who you were close to is something you don't really heal from, you just learn to incorporate the loss into yourself and find a way to move on in this strange new world without them.

You're right: we aren't the only one who lost a parent, but we are the only ones who lost this mother, or this father. There is a personal element that can't be taken away.

My condolences for you and prayers for healing of your eye.
