Review of You.

I've read hundreds of pieces on Writing.com and other similar sites, and I'm a writer myself. I'm not sure why, but I am rarely touched by others' writing. Maybe it's because sites like Writing.com and deviantART.com are rife with poor writing, or maybe it's because, like many artists, I am only impressed by work that is superior to my own. Regardless of the reason, it is a rare piece that truly strikes a chord with me.

This poem, however, is exceptional. The only way I can describe it is to say that it's as if you invented a whole new language because of all existing languages' gross inability to describe the things people so often need to describe. This poem transcends that barrier, and reminds readers as to why we write: to say the things that need to be said, in a way no one else can say them.

You perfectly summarized loss in just a few words, without stumbling or losing your way, and without shying from the topic. Indeed, this is honest and real, which is probably why I am so moved by it. Loss and pain are subjects people tend to sugar-coat, euphemize, or avoid all together. But you rose above that natural instinct and spoke freely and without shame or shyness about a clearly painful subject. You provided enough detail to paint a picture, but little enough to leave the reader to ponder, and to make it applicable in every person's life.

Whoever said that it takes a thousand words to equal a picture obviously hadn't read this poem. In this case, your words are worth a thousand pictures.
