I thought this was very interesting to read, and made great use of describing the surrounding. It is definitely intriguing and included details that created curiosity to learn more (What is Spirit Mother/Father, how do they fit into the story).
I'm not sure if this is a good or bad point, but I could see the story going in a number of different directions. I think that is good because it creates suspense. However, for some readers, not knowing enough could influence them to stop reading (just something to think about).
I personally love reading stories like this and thought it was great.
