Not exactly sure of the point of this piece. Does the hoop, like a ring, signify no end or beginning? And in that analogy, are we supposed to equate it with the "big brother; little brother" theme? The mother's role is unnecessary or if it is, her character doesn't have enough substance to warrant inclusion. With more substance, say another 500 words, this piece could be really good.
