Review of Determining Truth
Review by Z.B. Douglas
Rated: 13+ | (4.5)
Was this supposed to be seminal? Don't get me wrong, it is well written and profound enough to surprise anyone that hasn't read at least 3 philosophy books, but I don't feel as if you said anything that hasnt' been said already. Too many philosophers just go on and on about gigantically trivial things. They reject common usage and blabber on about what a dictionary might read versus how words like 'certain' are used in the marketplace. It's as if you posited an idea but gave no conclusion. There is no providence here. I understand that lots of philosophers just ask questions that no one can answer..and that's fine. Keep on keeping on because insight is eventual. Loquacious questioning may give a better example of what we humans are capable of...and maybe those capabilities will lead us to a philosopher's certainty...but this type of thinking is thousands of years old. We praise Seneca, Aristotle, Plato, etc..but their philosophizing hasn't led anyone anywhere. We end up reading these books and wanting to be able to think/write like them, but it's just another exclusive club of pedantic nincompoops masturbating their vernaculars. But, outside of philosphy, there is nothing concrete. Except concrete. Philosophy is one of the best ideas yet, but really....we know it's bogus. I guess that I'm looking for change. I give you an A-.
