A shocking look at the most truth about the celebrated, and perhaps most warped holiday.
The season of giving
But is that how we’re living?
We have trouble remembering
It’s not about getting

We make our lists,
“Check them twice,”
Work hard to make sure
People think we’re nice

If we’d all just gaze
At the Bright Star above
We’d stop being focused on
Quick wants and loves

When we get what we want
We’re not even surprised
We know we’ll get what we demand
So we make standards high

“It’s almost Christmas,
I’m so excited!”—
About selfless praise
Or to be delighted?

We’re all guilty
That’s the point
It’s hard to stop something
We all enjoy

Celebrating false idols
In the name of the Savior
Do we even recognize
Our ironic behavior?

Stress, work, relationships,
We all try to escape;
We make a “jolly” monster—
And its toll it will take

O Come, All Ye truly Faithful
Not to the things,
But to the Infinite Giver,
The one who reigns.
