My son is a soldier, therefore my tears too often fall like rain.

Tears fall like rain
Freely
For my son is stationed on the other side of the world,
Where he is waking, after a night’s fitful sleep
As another day’s sun's rays fall
Across the silent sea
On a mystical land, richly steeped in Biblical history
My mind travels through the dark
As I imagine
Finding my son donning his soldier uniform
At the breaking of yet another beautiful dawn

Tears fall like rain
Endlessly
As suddenly I imagine
The weight of his soldier gear
Ammunition, helmet, armored jacket
And a day's Army’s rations
Somewhere, on a lone, foreign, wretched street
He takes a knee
Where once saints and a savior walked

Tears fall like rain
Pensively
As suddenly I see his Army issued gun
And pray his finger rests on the trigger needlessly
