Poem for my sister.
For Michele

Her eyes, that are now filled with pain once shined through her soul with hope.
“ The world is an ugly place”, she said.
Her long curls lay along her neck holding her head up high, and her smile brightened an ugly world.
Her tears filled an ocean, but they are not tears of joy.
Her limbs danced to unknown song and she captivated her audience.
She is beautifully sad.

Her body is aging.
Time is passing.
She has the world at her fingertips and knows not what to do with it.
Reach up.
Grab the sun.
For it is all hers to have.

Confusion overwhelms her.
She hurts herself again.
Her arms show signs of fearlessness.
They are long, sleek and scabbed.
She knows now she is most afraid of herself.

Have no fear.
Life will throw you many curves.
See the Earth as your playground and climb the highest mountain you can find.
Remember, you might fall many times, but do not be afraid.
For I will be your backbone.

She is beautifully sad, but she will out live her scars.
