She's thinking about an old 'flame.'
The Letter

It was good to hear from your mom again,
to know that you are well.
I was quite surprised that she called me,
having nothing left to sell.

I often thought I'd phone you
when memories came to call,
when passions rose to the surface,
and my defenses started to fall.

It might have been the salt on the glass
or the lemon and the lime
which reminded me so much of you
and of our long-ago love time.

It couldn't be that you still care.
I really know better than that.
It's been years since I said goodbye
as you jumped in your car, skit scat!

Before I go to sober up,
Could I ask a question, for free?
I want to ask you, Johnny,
Do you ever think of me?
