Old age is meaningless without learning this lesson - Written for the Alphabet Fun contest
Lives wrapped up in meaningless cares
Longing for times before gray hairs
Listening to the songs of yore
Lost in thoughts of a distant shore

Little seems their existence now
Left behind in the dust somehow
Learning, wisdom that time forgot
Lost in ether of faded thought

“Let me die,” is their silent plea
Lips dare not form entirely
Lest they be judged to be unwell;
Locked up inside a mental hell

Lingering on this mortal plane
Lowered lids issue tears of pain
Longevity, the curse of feeling
Life alone the fate it’s sealing

Light penetrates their hearts of gloom
Little feet pad into their room
Laughter rings out, tiny eyes shine
Little child, your their treasure mine

Life’s gift they’re no longer spurning
Lessons forgot they’re relearning:
Living may be hard and trying;
Loving keeps the soul from dying!
