When the couch captures you...
I am due for a great day
I say to a man with no umbrella
on a rainy afternoon
Where do I cash my ticket?
He points to the line
and doesn’t look up
That line looks kind of long….
I don’t wait on long lines
Not even during no tax week
Thanks anyway

I’ll just stay here in my cloud
With my feather blanket
Sleeping
Forgetting my dreams
What great steps could possibly
be beyond the foot of my bed

………And the letters pile up

You will never realize
the resources I've consumed
to deliver myself to you

The more I realize everything
is connected
the farther apart I see

These little instances
that everyone else seems to enjoy
As the vegetables speed by with shopping bags
The cows graze by with ketchup parenthesis
The red goats trotting along consuming tin cans
The flamingos bend over to pick up
canary diamonds
Plastic marionettes feeding dead anorexics
maple syrup intravenously, they’d both rather be dancing
The daisies lay alive on the brown grass
With their roots ripped from the ground
Doesn’t anyone else notice?
Does the food taste that good?
Vegans eat alone
Did you read all the answers?
Does that outfit restrict your perspective
to only your own reflection?
What would Mr. Jesus do?
I don’t know him personally
I never cared about strangers
And I never believe what people’s friends
say about them after they leave
Take your little bracelets and try wearing them
as a necklace

What kind of people
obsess over strangers
and things they have
never
seen

Everyone changes
Everyone is unpredictable
I am disappointed everyday
but never has anyone
surprised me

I’m not angry at you anymore

A butterfly was once a fat caterpillar
Grounded
Eating
For weeks and weeks
It spun itself wings
Then only lived to fly a few days

I look up into the sky
The single engine cessna is circling
my garden of secrets
Dropping matches on my mistakes
Marked by little circles of blood
That pilot has good aim
Maybe one day that damn thing will land
and light my cigarette
