This is a poem I wrote for my mom, because she has been going through a rough time.
Once upon a time,
My mommy got back some test results.
They changed her life you know.

They told her she was to give birth.
And my tiny heart did leap,
When I heard in my safe spot,
That she chose me to keep.

She brought me into this world
On the 25th of May.
Instead of a lovely picnic,
She had me on Memorial Day.

Throughout my infant years,
She loved me through and through,
And not a day has gone by,
She forgot to say, "I love you."

As the years went by, she raised me well.
She taught me rights from wrongs.
And I still remember to this day,
When she sang my favorite songs.

Then as most parents worry,
I entered my teenage years.
But my mom raised me better than that,
And so she knew she had no fears.

Once I went to high school,
She was no longer just "Mom" to me,
She became my best friend,
And was there when I needed her to be.

She saw my proms, watched my races,
Took me all over, and heard my graduation speech.
All these years I never noticed,
It was how to love she's been trying to teach.

She always listened,
To what I had to say.
And she would give up her life,
Just to give me one more day.

I can only hope,
To be half as caring as her.
When I grow up and have children of my own,
I hope I'm just like MY mother.
