a metaphor of my life
A wave crashes over me,
I don’t see it and it pulls me under.
I can’t breathe.
I panic
But I am saved.
Another wave comes along and once more, drags me away.
It tosses me about but I remember the last time and manage to help myself,
But,
I still needed rescued.
A third wave comes rolling in.
I know exactly what’s going to happen but I still stand there and get swept away.
This time I fight harder and manage to get out
When number four comes thundering in…
I jump out of the way.
I want to stay alive.
There’s no number five
Because…
This time I go and stand somewhere high
So that I can look down on my life,
Before anyone else does
And say…
I AM A SURVIVOR.
