My wife is in Iraq. This is my poem to her.
I miss you most at night,
When I lay awake alone in bed,
Sleeping diagonal fills the space,
But doesn't grace the pillow with your head,

Our sporadic phone calls don't help,
When you call I have too much to say,
Instead I ask about the weather,
And how was your busy day,

It is your duty and that I understand,
I once wore that uniform myself,
But never have I been here,
With my emotions bottled on the shelf,

I feel safer behind my words,
Then my voice on the phone,
I can think of all the things to say,
Tell you how I am so alone,

My love come back safely,
Serve with dignity and honor,
Think not of my pain,
I can wait much longer,
