Packing away a past life.
Letting Go

Put in a box,
And stored away,
Saving you for,
A rainy day.

Shutting it tight,
Away from the air,
My heart hurts badly;
Too much to bear.

Cannot look at,
Memories past,
Makes my eyes tear,
And my heart beat fast.

I miss you so much,
I want to hold on,
I want you here,
Not a picture con.

I want to have fun,
Like we did before,
I think back on it,
And my heart feels sore.

I tell my mind,
I have to let go
But my heart tells it,
That just can’t be so.

I’m shutting the lid,
Tears in my eyes,
It must be done,
I must be wise.

But my shaking hands,
Can’t shut the clasp,
So I push it harder,
Until I gasp.

A picture, I found,
Is caught in the latch,
A picture of us,
Playing catch.

I grab at the picture,
After undoing the lid,
I smile shortly,
Before placing it amid.

I feel stronger now,
As I put back on the lid,
I love you so much,
I’m not keeping you hid.

I’m just saving you, darling,
For a rainy, wet day,
Where I’ll pull you out,
And we can play.
