This is a poem about a man whose been made hollow by a mistake, empty by a choice.
He closes his eyes
Cuz the surprise
Is more than he can bear
It's his biggest fear
Constantly looking over his shoulder
Wondering who it was who told her.
It's cold and empty in this place
Inside of his soul
He only sees her face
Image has taken its toll.
Her eyes are etched onto his mind's eye
Staring back with every blink
Won't leave, much as he may try
It won't let him think.
There's a sadness he can't swallow
An ache in his chest
In these tears he would wallow
And forget the rest.
He used to be strong
Used to belong
But that's all gone now
He wonders how
It's come to this
If only she could hear him cry
Know he is sincere
Maybe then she would try
To once more care
But the boundary's been breached
The line's been crossed
He practices what he preached
But at what cost?!
