A new and improved (?)version of a poem inspired by my best friend and boyfriend, BSG.
Forever Goodbye. (Revised)

In this moment,
us laying here,
you with that look in your eyes that's meant solely for me,
me, knowing my heart belongs to you only,
holding you close,
breathing in your sent,
your heart beating against mine,
my fingers intwined in your hair,
your finger tips on my skin,
our lips touching,

In this moment,
of sacrid silence,
unbroken by unnecessary words,
in an unbreakable bond,
our souls knit together,
our hearts so full,
In this moment,
of total surrender,
of complete serenity,
What more could I want?
What more could I need?
If I could only save this moment forever.
I'd bottle it up tightly,
Capture the fullness,
Savor the taste.

But you cannot stay.
I cannot write my name on your heart.
You are not mine to keep.
Holding on to you will not keep you here.
Whispered words of love and devotion,
of future promises,
will soon become whispered words,
of loss and regret,
of finalities,
of goodbyes.
I cannot ask you to stay,
but I still beg you not to leave.
You are sand slipping through my fingers.
A dream fading, I cannot remember.
A whisper on the wind, I cannot contain.
Your face etched upon my mind, plays in still frames.
Your laughter echoing in my mind, fades into silence.
Cold invades the warmth you left behind.
With empty arms,
with no hand to hold,
I am alone,
with the memories of what once was,
of what once could have been,
and of what now can never be.
Soon all that is left is,
words on a yellowing page,
a face on fading photos.
There is never tomorrow, only today, and yesterday.
You are gone, never to return.
There is no "to have and to hold"
no "from this day forward",
no forever yours, forever mine.
There is only forever goodbye.
