I wrote this while dealing with an illness
Come and lay with me my love
Here beneath the sunlit apple blossoms
In the thickness of the grass
Set aside your fear of losing me my love
If only for awhile

Let us listen to the buzzing
Of the honeybees
Partaking of its nectar
As we lay here quietly
Watching clouds sketch
Playful portraits against
The canvas of the sky

Let the memory of this day remain
Come this time next spring
When I am in my place of rest
Remember how we’d lie for hours
Here beneath the sunlit apple blossoms
Reminiscing of times less somber

Come and lay with me my love
And think not of tomorrow
Hold me close against you
Forget that I am frail
Let me dry your tears my love
And savor the sweetness of your mouth
Once more
Before all I taste is acrid bitterness

Come and lay with me my love
Here beneath the sunlit apple blossoms
In the thickness of the grass
Knowing how I love you
And set aside your fear of losing me
If only for awhile
