Christmas celebrations bring back memories of a loved one.
As I walk alongside this road,
I am sure I can find my way.

The brightly lit floats of the parade light up the streets
As children wave,
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

Everyone is full of smiles and laughter,
Enjoying this wonderful event,
As it is a time of celebration.
For winter is approaching, bringing with it
The joy of Christmas.

I cannot help but smile myself
For seeing everyone so happy,
Gives my heart such a warm, soft feeling.

My steps slowly begin to come to a stop,
As I look to the parade.
Then look all around me,
Everyone…is smiling.
Everyone…is full of joy.

Sitting on the curb,
Watching as the floats pass by,
I wave to all the children,
Wishing them Happy Holidays.

As everyone is full of joy,
Sleigh bells are ringing,
As the carolers sing merrily,
And dancers are dancing the night away.
I cannot help but smile.

Yet, as I am grateful,
For being given the chance to attend
Such a wonderful celebration,
I soon feel hot tears well up,
As they begin to fall.

During a celebration such as this,
I wonder why I am feeling how I am.
Why I feel so incredibly alone,
And why this ache in my heart
Only seems to grow stronger,
As the winter holidays become closer.

It’s been a year now,
That fate tore us apart.
Yet…that year seemed to last
An eternity,
As my pain of missing you
Only grew as time passed.

That year…the snow fell for the first time.
The snowflakes falling gently,
Piling up higher and higher,
As they began to cover my heart.

During all this time that we have spent apart,
Spring has yet to reach my heart.
As I am still missing you,
After all this time.

I have tried to lock you away,
But that only seems to become harder.
As these winter holidays grow closer,
Bringing joy and laughter to all,
Along with the memories that I hold of you.

Christmas is a time of joy.
Generosity fills the air,
Along with the feeling of love and belonging.
As everyone is welcoming to all,
And the hearts of all soften,
Becoming only but more fragile than before.

Along with the joy,
Comes sadness, and pain.
Though, as some feel this pain and grief fill their hearts,
They are not alone,
For family, and friends are there beside them,
Comforting them.

Everyone grows close during the winter holidays,
Hearts becoming one.
Together, being thankful for all that they have,
For their family, friends…everything.

As I begin to smile,
Wiping these tears away,
I slowly begin to stand, walking once more.

I am grateful for all the memories
That you have given me.
I am thankful,
For I was given the opportunity
To love you.

I am now walking,
Smiling, full of joy,
As I wave to all,
Wishing them a Merry Christmas.

As I walk alongside this road,
I am sure I can find my way.
