Forgiveness finally set me free.
A ride in the car we were told that day
My mother said there was no other way

When the car stopped it was late
Out of the car we were told to wait

My brothers and I left by the side of the road
We were to small to carry this heavy load

Scared and afraid the dark was so near
A man in a truck said have no fear

Up the mountain he took us to a farm
He said you will sleep there in the barn

Day after day we washed in the spring
Left over food from the house he did bring

A stranger came to see us one day
Our picture he took he had nothing to say

Just three abandon children left on the road
I was 5 my brothers 7 and 9 years old

Days went by then a car came to call
The state came to claim us all

Our mothers parents came to our aid
But only a year had we stayed

Threw adoption I was taken away
Never to see them another day

Years of resentment welled up inside
Thirty-five years before she stood by my side

Together we cried she thought I had died
I asked her about that last dreadful ride

Her memory over time had withered away
But I found forgiveness for her on that day

Two days we spent and found each other
The next year God took my birth mother
