The Inimical Rose


Oh child come close,
Closer than before,
Let me whisper in your ear
About the roses you adore.

The ones that emit
The most intimate of perfumes,
Enticing and desirous,
Yet it wafts its way to empty tombs.

Feminine and graceful,
And yet it adorns,
Pride,
A mask, in another form.

My son, I advise
You not to pick from those;
The prideful, the wanton and licentious,
Beware the inimical rose!
