A poem written in this year's (2006/07) Creative Writing II class.
Wait

I.

And so I wait
Hearing all these
Coos and tweets
And waiting for my
Wake up call.

While sense and morals
Freeze my fingers
They form a carpet
Under your boastful stride.

But what of it?
I’m stuck counting footprints
Left behind in the snow;
Here granite stones watch and,
Breathing sighs on my ankles,
They murmur
“forgotten, forgotten”

II.

And so I wait
While webs weave
Around my eardrums
Muffling notes of wayward promise
That float through humid
Summer storms.

Long, rounded nails,
With polish glinting
In the glow of shaded lamps,
Scrape along my chin, my back,
And elongated fingers
Slither and coil
Around my throat.

With sweet smells suffocating
and exhaustion
Drawing down my lids
I wait for cocoons to crack
And my life to finally begin.
