i've known you since childhood
we grew up in the same neighborhood
we used to play in the park
reluctant to go home at dark
it seems as if we grew up so fast
i wish the fun could've last
at the beginning of high school
i lost to that other girl at the pool
it was then that i realized i love you
but what could i do
you made it clear that i was just a friend
and would remain that way till the end
so no matter who you do
i'll stick by you
our friends told me
what you said you wanted to see
they said that there is another girl you love
they said she is as sweet as a dove
they said her hair was real light
and her eyes fill you with delight
when they told me that, i felt sick
because i was not your pick
the next day you came my way
you said you had something to say
you told me that you had always loved me
but was afraid that the love i did not see
you said that it was me you wanted to be with
and then to show you how i felt i gave you a kiss
now you have closer than a friend
and i hope we stay that way till the end
i'm so happy you helped me see the light
so i know that it was my eyes that filled you with delight.
