Shakespearean Sonnet written for RAW 2, Round 3. Prompt: Gratitude.

I thank you for the times you held my hand.
Also the many moons spent at my side.
I need for you to really understand,
Eternal gratitude I cannot hide.

If not for you I would not still be here.
I'm grateful that you have held on so long.
My thanks is boundless but it's come to fear
in holding on too tight I've done you wrong.

I do appreciate the time you've lost.
The life you've given up to be with me.
I'm grateful, but it's been too high a cost.
You must move on at last and leave me be.

My friend, you've had to sit and watch me die.
Go now. Go live. I'm gone. Just say goodbye.

Shakespearean Sonnet - The sonnet form used by Shakespeare, composed of three quatrains and a terminal couplet in iambic pentameter with the rhyme pattern abab cdcd efef gg.
