A talk with Dad...
Hi Dad...

Okay, here I am again
with a buzz on
and a smoke in my hand...

It is late
and I know
it has been awhile...

I guess you want to know
why I am here,
even if you can guess...

Yeah, Gayle left
without a word
and no address to find her...

Dad, it hurts
like fire
and there's no relief...

I know men
are not supposed to cry
and I ain't...

The point is
she's not the first
to go away...

There was Carolyn,
so sweet and kind
and so forgiving...

Then Sherry
with her beguiling ways
and her gift of joy...

Then Jody
who took me where
I'd never been before...

Now Gayle
had made her move
and I am alone once more...

Dad, is it me
that drives them off
or just circumstance...

Am I not the man
you raised
to meet the goal...

Is it my fate
to be alone
with just you to talk to...

What's that?
I know I did my best
to meet every task...

Then you mean
I am not alone
for you will always be here...

I guess I'll go
and let you sleep
beneath your stone...

Bye, Dad...

I'll be back Memorial Day
and fly the flag
you died for...
