A bad time in life, and a good dog.
The key in the lock
he swats at the door
with his paw
he‘s waiting to see
If the one at the door is his mommy
or if once again
it’s just me
As his brown eyes look
through me to find you
he see's sadness
in my eyes
Knowing you still haven’t
come home
I’m wishing for
one more try
he wags so hard
he brings a smile
to the emptiness he sees
A lick and a chew and the smile in his eyes
almost brings me to my knees
He helps me through another day
never asks for more
His food, and water or a walk now and then
Can just never even our score
If only he knew
how he saved my life
Or maybe he does but can’t say
Thank God my dog was put on this earth
To help me through these days
