One of my inspirations
Chameleon

Suddenly I am lost
Though this place I know
This river I’d crossed
Not too long ago

Now cross it again I must
To find my way back
It is the route I trust
All others I lack

Once across I see
A rising mammoth before me
Eyes, black as night
Fangs, sharp to bite
Body, long and green
Slithering out unseen

Scream I did
Run I tried
From the bed I slid
In relief I cried

Only a dream, I thought
And it’s quickly forgotten
So, in my book, I jot
Before reality comes a knockin’

Once more I sleep
And in she creeps without a peep
Through my deep slumber
She tears my thoughts asunder
This is my companion
Her name is Chameleon

She preys on my memories
And jumbles them up
She helps me create stories
Through dreams she makes up

Then up she wakes me
Forcing me to write
Though she annoys me
I know she is right

True to her name
She never remains the same
Altering shapes and colours
Appearing at odd hours
I try to catch her
But I falter

Yet by my side, she stays
Close to my heart, always
In my mind, she lives
Through my dreams, she breathes
