About walking home
Around 6:30pm
I leave work
and walk home alone
through the city.
The sky is muggy
with tired light
and old buildings rise
in neglected remembrance
over half read neon signs.
So many people,
strangers pass me by;
fragments of colour
ribbons of sound
and faces blurring
like reflections glimpsed
in dark moving water.
I think to myself
know where I am going,
but I don't,
and my feet step unheard
and leave no marks
upon the concrete ground.
