A writing inspired by and dedicated to an addicted friend.
Where are you my friend?
Are you o.k.?
I think of you often
I hope you are safe

From the demons who often
knock on our doors,
stealing our peace,
leaving guilt and remorse

Over things we have done
without wanting to do them.
Resolve in our hearts
torn apart once again.

Because of our weakness,
the cycle begins.
As ever before,
we pray it will end.

The time is upon you to make a decision.

Be true to yourself
and soon there will be
the peace that you crave
and the joy that you need.

For loneliness comes
not from solitude.
But from those who do not
believe as you do.

Your good-time "friends"
don't care what comes after.
When you are alone
there is no more laughter.

Self resignation;
the worst kind of defeat
a wound to the heart,
the kind that is deep.

It sinks like a stone
in the heart and the soul,
of one who deserves
so very much more

The pain you've endured
most would never survive.
But your strength is greater
than they realize.

So what will you do now
with the strength that you have?
If you changed its direction
If you chose a new path...

How many many closed doors
would open for you?
How many lost dreams
could finally come true?

The freedom to be
whatever you dream.
To choose a good life,
one that's healthy and clean.

You have it you know -
the strength to get there.
And stay there - a lifetime,
to breathe in the air.

Find peace in your life -
make this your conviction,
to finally be free
From this painful addiction.
