A sad poem of a girl's love taken away.
I’ll never forget the sky that night,
That last night I spent with you
You told me you were going to fight
But I couldn't comprehend

The stars were out dancing over the full moon
I remember them reflected in your eyes
You promised me you would be home soon
To me you would return

You kissed me a sweet kiss goodbye,
You took one last look
Then you walked away with a heavy sigh
I felt sure I would see you again

Then the leaves began to change colors
The weather became cooler
I heard talk from the neighbors
You weren’t coming home

I refused to believe them inside
Then the stranger walked on my doorstep
And told me you were dead
I bowed my head and in sorrow I cried

Now when I look up at the night sky
I see your face that night
I no longer ask god why
But smile and think of that night
