Trying to Find and Keep the Light
I.
I look back on the road behind,
It travels by so fast,
I don’t recall the yesteryears,
What happened in the past.

I’m told that they were good years,
But I really don’t recall.
I’d only wish I’d have been there
To enjoy them all.

II.
But now they’re gone and left me here
A hobo on the street,
I’ll just take up my little bag of things
And travel with my feet.

Maybe a million miles to travel
I don’t know where I’ll go.
I’ll hitch a ride on some truck whose
Glowing dashboard angel will show.

The direction I should take
In this desert, blackened haze.
Since I don’t remember what’s behind,
It’s simply all a maze.

But my God is no plastic angel
On the dashboard of a truck,
He’s so much more elusive
And His light I cannot touch.

III.
I often think you blind me;
I often think I see,
But why so hard the road
That lay ahead of me?
