Vanilla Days

Vanilla days are simple days
Awash in the familiar.
Normal people walk a routine pace,
Insipid and pedestrian.

Lackluster hours of work and play
Laundered of crime and violence;
Accustomed to each other’s ways,
Daily companionable silence

Artifice aside, jealous, detractors wait;
Yearning for a time they too will taste
Simple, sweet vanilla days.
