Tell no one I'm married to a poltergeist
TO MY POLTERGEIST

To my precious poltergeist:
The lights are out on this night of Christ
I blow out the last lonely candle
And darkness my eyes dandle
I lie down to hear you knock
And turn your set of keys in my lock
And open my door with a slow creak
Like the whine from the winter birds beak
Your footsteps draw you near
Pattering on the floor, like rain on a wharf
Robes sway in the wind
Like a thousand trees agreeing they’ve sinned
You breathe your words like the wind of the west
Calling all things ghostly to your nest
And in your world I am foreign
But in wedlock I have become your Gorgon
Clothed in your jewels
Worshipped by all your fools
Queen in your pools
Your faceless voice--your tool
You sing to me my favorite one
Tickle my ear with your tongue
Chant your prose on ears otherwise deaf
Breathe your ballad into my breath
Let your noise be quite for tonight is our peace
Empty chatter and nonsense you cease
Smoky lips upon my breast
I quiver at your behest
Smack of a kiss under my dress
Ravish! Take of me no less
Make me your subservient mistress
With words and whispers you have me harnessed
And freedom would give me no succor
For I seek to be imprisoned in your cryptic lore
Are you waiting on the world?
Or is the world waiting on your herald?
Were you the sign that was chosen?
Or am I the omen?
You touch my face like you’re answering my question
Cold tingles like you are my portion
But my mind will not formulate these thoughts
Stubborn and vile, ignoring what I sought
So characteristically distraught
Heal me tonight my amorphous ghost
Empty my mind so terribly engrossed
Tell no one that light is a heist
Tell no one I am married to a poltergeist
Tell no one I came tonight
