My words about the tragedy of 9/11
Spilled Coffee

Quietly she listens to
the coffee bubbling
as it perks
she watches the soft
colors of the sun
arising.

She zaps on CNN
rubbing her eyes
trying to focus
she needs that
coffee.

Finally it’s ready
the cup is filled,
she flops into her chair
she hears, she sees
but cannot believe.

Her cup drops
as she watches,
the smoke, the fear
the first plane
plunges in.

Two more hit
their targets,
the screams and
the panic
the loss of lives.

She sees the destruction
the two towers fall,
it seems like
the world is
ending after all.

In this moment
at this time,
it seems like a world
finally united,
joined together
to fight as one.

She hears the phone ringing
it shatters the dream
she thought she was in
but it wasn’t a dream
after all

Their world really did end…
